Disco Sport 2.2, 2015 auto oil leak
Oil drips between the auto box and the transfer case. The oil is red with brownish streaks in it. Quite a bit of oil is now collecting on the under shield cover. The box level is ok but needs constant checking.
After some research my auto tech has diagnosed a possible cause.
Oil weeping through the ali casing in the rear ext housing of the transmission in the base of the pocket around where the D clutch tube is embedded. This could be internal casing porosity allowing oil to reach the end of the small pocket under the tube where the casing is prone to casting fabrication damage. Oil then drips from between the transmission and the transfer box. Full diagnosis requires removal of the transfer unit.
I've yet to determine if the leak is just seepage or driven by oil pressure. I could not find anything else in the forum but I think this is a fairly well known issue.
My question is; are there other possible causes or is this the most likely?
Is there a view on if Landrover might help towards the cost of this work as the casing defect may have been there from day one but just got worse.
