hi guys got a problem rebuilt the head new gaskets new rad run for 700 miles ok not missing.
started to lose water when the engine cools down.
took the themostate out put in boiling water and it opened ok.
when you touch the top hoses they are really hot , but the bottom hose out of the rad is just warm is this right i would of thought it would be hot ,
could the thermostat be just sticking when it wants.
have checked the rad even though its new not leaking from there, ok doing it when it cools down and i think its out the header tank running down the top of the chassis to the front of the car.
at a bite of a loss what to check next.
any body got any idea,s need the car for work as starting a new job, after been out of work for 3 months.

thanks for your help

Are you using the 50/50 mix of OAT fluid and water?

Have you checked ALL of the water pipes, including the tiddly ones on the throttle body?

Also check the heater matrix stubs on the bulkhead.

Put a new short engine in our 1999 V8, has done nearly 3000 miles with no overheating of fluid loss, but it did take a while to run down all the little leaks around the hoses.

Worst of all, the T pieces for the LPG vapouriser water feed were collapsing, so I have today piped the vapouriser and heater in one loop so the water goes through the vapouriser first then the heater and then back to the bottom water rail.

hi peter.
not got 50/50 antifreeze in yet thought i would let it settle down.
have checked the hoses and nipped them up.
run it today and was ok.
will have to change the top hose as the bleeder screw just snapped off.
so cant blled it yet.
should have a new one tuesday as having a problem getting one.
themostat is opening ok as checked it after the run today was hot top and bottom.
no water oil mix so thats ok.
no gurgling from the heater, would the antifreez make a differnce to it boiling over.
many thanks dave

The boiling point is a fair bit higher with the mixture, and don't forget that you have to hold the header tank up off its mountings when bleeding the radiator.

I re-routed the gas vapouriser water pipes today, and replaced the last of the old heater hoses on the heater matrix, both were pretty perished and probably originals, but one was leaking and you couldn't see it at all.
