Hey all....tiz I again.

I hate these kinds of problems, the type ya can’t diagnose!
On my way back home last night I was very childish in going through all the big puddles, then a few miles from home this vibration started. Under acceleration between about 20mph and 50mph..Didnt take it further that that for safety worries. I’m jus about to go and take the rear prop off...see if it’s that, but any opinions would be cool.
Cheers

Ok drive shafts off…how do I get the big drum off. The bit that connects the rear drive shaft to the box. I’m thinking it’s the large cross head but I aint got the tool so ill av to wait till later when I get the impact driver. I just hope its that screw.
I’m quite sure the handbrake gubbins is in that drum too so I can find out why that don’t work any more.
I don’t have to mess with the big 32mm nut in there do I?

Just blag out the big X head screw and the drum should come away, but you might need to back off the adjuster nut first. It should be a hex head at the bottom of the backplate facing forwards so it catches all the **** and mud from the front wheels, LOOSEN this hexhead ... unscrew it quite a lot. Then tap the drum off using a wooden mallet. Don't use a big steel hammer or you will probably crack the cast iron drum.

You will not need to interfere with the big nut.
Inside the drum you should find a perfectly ordinary drum brake scheme, two big brake shoes, which SHOULD be expanded when you heave the handbrake lever back.

RAVE says :
The drum brake consists of a backplate attached to the transfer box casing and a drum attached to the transfer box rear output shaft. When the handbrake lever is applied, the movement is transmitted by the inner cable to a lever on one of the brake shoes on the backplate. The lever pivots against the brake adjuster rod, which forces the shoes apart and into contact with the drum. Brake shoe to drum clearance is set by an adjusting bolt on the rear of the backplate.

Easy-Peasy huh?

But if some cretin has heaved the handbrake on at 70 miles an hour the linings will have vaporised into a cloud of smelly smoke ..... and no more handbrake.
