Morning all, it's just gone 4.30 am and I'm just setting off from Maidenhead aiming for York to go see Bell Auto's and get my TD5 chipped and EGR'd.

So for all those people wanting to know what a chipped one goes like.......watch this space.

If I don't make it back to report further don't bother!!!!!

7 hours of driving later I'm home again...the story so far;

Had the chip replaced and programmed to a sensible high torque curve (could have taken it further apparently, but could start smoking under heavy load) so opted for sensible to start with - mapping between 30 and 48% higher torque than std chip.

Removed EGR valve and assembly completely with straight thru ally section and blanking plug.

Turbo wiring box fitted to allow wastegate to be opened to allow approx 18 psi boost pressure.

what a difference!!!!!! think I might be overtaking a few more things from now on, between fuel stops of course :D

will monitor mpg over next few days and see how it compares to my old 26mpg ish (not towing) mixed/short journeys.

Pete at Bell Auto's good bloke too, knows his stuff - as the say on ebay - highly recommended, will do business with again :p

Good luck with that l3on, had mine chipped, uprated intercooler and a K&N a few months back. became a totally different car. Could overtake things that before I would've struggled to keep up with.
As long as I'm a bit careful with performance, my mpg doesn't suffer, if anything it's improved.

I know i have read this on a number of forums but does removing the egr valve make that big a difference on all Disco's:confused:

I've had long discussions on it in 2 other threads recently myself, my way of looking at it is - that it can't possibly do any harm to remove it, will make the engine cleaner, is 1 less thing to go wrong and should in theory make the engine more responsive under certain limited conditions.

That said, with the other mods I've just had done, I'm not attributing any performance gains to that mod itself, would need to do on it's own to evaluate any gains, just whilst I was getting other bits sorted did that too.:)

I dont know facts and figures, just what i know.
My disco is on 107k miles, and ive just removed the egr valve, well blanked it off actually.
And yes its made one hell of a difference. It aint a porsche, but its more responsive, revs more freely and certainly seems to pick up a lot better than before.
Someone mentioned that the valve could of been faulty anyway, and removing it cured the problem, not fixed one. Dont know, but ive spoke to a few people face to face who have all done it and swear by the same results.

Lenny you should be able to see whether your vlave is stuck open by removing the hose from the egr valve assy and the intercooler.

I've just bought an ally section that replaces the valve assy completely - giving larger bore less restricted flow thru to the inlet manifold, from mr bell auto's, can then remove the pipe that goes round to the egr blanking plug too - saving weight!!!! hehehe

Going for another spin just now has raised another point, with the increased boost pressure, I can now feel turbo lag on quick gear changes, has anyone here fitted a dump valve mod? if so, any good?

Blanking plate from ebay, 3 quid plus a quid for postage i think.

search for egr blanking plate, then look for the disco one. they do em for shoguns as well.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm tiiissssssssssssssss as you change gears.

hoping I can get a nice quiet one, only seen 2 for landrovers and one claims to be the loudest dump valve ever or your money back.......so won't be going there then :D

l3on, did the job in two stages, chip and K&N, then intercooler about a week later. Only because the company didn't have stock of the intercooler.

How much difference did the intercooler make after the chipping? and was yours a replcement chip or powerbox type chipping?

Last question I promise lol. Do you need Two blanking plates. Or would One between the manifold and egr valve be enough;)
