Disco Td5 Auto

Hello people ive got a td5 auto disco, ive had a problem that the torque converter doesnt lock when in top gear today seems to have started locking as it should. anyway tried to drive thorough a ditch earlier got stuck finally reversed out then ive got the m and s flashing on the dashboard. so took keys out let it sit for 5min no more flashing lights so i continue my jorney now back on road i find the gear change from 2nd to 3rd gear very slow and rough it almost seems like the engine wont rev anymore and it takes a few seconds then it engages into 3rd gear. this happens at 3000rpm if you thrash it it seems to change a little better a red line has anybody got any ideas what could be going on with my gear box as its starting to bother me. Did it go into water?

First thing I would do is drain the tranny and fill it with fresh stuff, have a look at the colour of the old fluid.

nope no warter. i have recently change the gearcox oil. any other ideas? valve block?

hi, had some probs with my td5 auto , my lights flashed m and s and lights on centre consol also flashed, gear box went into get home mode so it was stuck in thrid , this has sorted its self out now but i went to a independent landrover garage, he plugged it into his computer and it showed a fault on the hi low switch, he said that this is a common prob , cost £30 to find probs and clear logged probs on cars computer, hope this is of some help andy

We had similar probs with M and S lights both on, then clearing and other intermittent problems, such as losing power etc. Then on holiday in Scotland this summer, vibrating at 2500 revs, but would stop if revved about that, and slow to change gear. Final straw came as we thought we had blown the engine as black smoke poured out the arse end. That turned out to be a kinked air hose.

Sorry to say that the gearbox went on to completely fail, after limping/towing a caravan home through the lake district, and we had to have it rebuilt at the cost of £2.5k.

We think the previous owner knew about the problem as the mechanic asked if we had had a temp repair done recently, we bought the Disco in Feb this year.

My advice is get shut and buy a manual!
