Disco Shocks

hi to all ,
help , im not sure what to do , so thought i would consult the members on here to ask there advise , right to get to the point i have a disco 300 tdi R reg , it has the standard shocks on , i pursume there oil filled , is there any advantAGE in changeing them to gas ones i know there is different lengths , but if i got the longer ones , does this mean i have to extend all pipes aswell , the main reason for asking is the ride is to soft for me not used to luxury when driving , plus when i pulling me digger the back seems to be down please i do value your input

Hi there, if you want to firm up the ride of your Disco, you could considor HD spring as well as Gas dampers. If you get the std length in both there will be no brake pipe issues.

Sounds like HD springs would help the towing as well.

Springs are the curly bits that hold the car up - shock absorbers are the bits that stop the springs bouncing around too much !!

The two elements are required to make a vehicle run properly on or indeed off the roads.

Each element has it's own set of properties or characteristics, to suit the job in hand.

For example, on some Discos, they have progressive springs, this means that initially the spring compresses easily and then as more compression is applied, their resistance increases. This approach is used to give general comfort, but can allow a bit of wallowing.

Shock absorbers are designed to do what their name implies, but some work with oil, some with a gaz and some use a combination of both.

In practice, for what you want to achieve, my advice would be buy some Std length HD springs all round, with the best/most expensive shockers you can afford.
