disco or defender?

Ultimately the 90 will ususally be better than a Discovery off road, it's shorter, narrower, lighter, has better aproach & departure angles and can take bigger tyres. There are some circumstances when the longer wheel base of a Discovery will be an advantage, but tyey are rare. Having said that we are talking extremes here, in most circumstances there's not much to chose between them.
You have to balance that agagist how much of your time is spent on or off road, how many passengers you carry etc.
If I already owned a Defender I doubt I'd swap it for a Discovery, but if I were buying I would be looking at a Discovery because of the price difference (or more accurately the age difference for the same price)

Disco's are great but at the end of the day they rot like buggery. Whereas all the bodywork on a defender is easily fixed or replaced ther's lots of innaccesible steel in a disco that's quietly turning into rust as we speak. Certainly value for money though where could you get a 200tdi defender for 500 quid?

rust is possibly a huge issue for me due to me usin it on beaches when its offroad. with me defender, its chassis bulkhead crossmember is in excellent nick, i dont use wax oyl, i just give it a good powerwash. would i have to take extra EXTRA care with a disco, would it b waxoyl worthy?

hey alsooooooo, wats the insurance groupin of a disco?anybody?

Not sure about the group, but I know it's a tad more expensive than the fender for me, but then we know what my insurance is like

i saw that a 2001 td5 is group 13. d'ya no if ur measuring mate has a clue?

ahh found out, defender 90tdi is aboot a 7 while a td5 E disco is a 12ish.hu...

'97 300tdi is group 12, an '05 2.7 td v6 is group 13 but i think yer lookin at 12 or 13 depending on the engine and age. Just did a google search lol
