The compass in my Discovery rear view mirror played up oddly
yesterday. I noticed that it was perminently showing North, so pulled
off the road, switched off the ignition, waited a few seconds, and
switched back on. Display showed its 'all segments' display as it
normally does briefly, but in this case continued to show it. Tried a
few more times but still the 'all segments' display.

This morning started up and all is working normally. Is the sensor
element in the mirror itself - or is it remote ? Any sugesstions what
may be playing up?

I must admit when I got the Disco I thought that the mirror compass
was a gimick, but on a few occassions recently it has proved quite
useful !

You've decided on the election date then?

I think the magnetic sensor is in the roof lining above where the
mirror fits.

The CPU in the mirror... I shouldn't worry about it to much. I guess
you could try the calibration and the setting routine. Calibration is
press and hold the the recessed button underneath the mirror until C
appears in the display (approx 6 seconds) then drive slowly in circles
or just drive around for a while. You then need to set the compass,
press and hold the button for 3s, then press/release the button untill
the correct zone number is shown. 10 for most of the UK, extreme SE is
9 and west coast(ish) or Eire and Scottish Islands is 11.

Quite, but when trying to get across the fells in a storm the other
month after the main road had a Beech tree across it it was useful to
show that my hunch I was going round in circles was true...

I'd like to know if it has the 'lectrics to enable the ext temperature
display to work. That would be much more useful on a day to day basis.
OK the AC unit has an ext temp display function but you have to press
a button and it doesn't latch.

The ext temp prode, clip and cable are available as spares across the
pond for not too many dollars...
