Disco I II III maybe a Freelander or something else??

I already have 2 ser 3 landys and a car but it’s getting long in the tooth now so I’m looking at my options. Its replacement would need to be up for taking 4 people towing a smallish trailer tent or caravan from kent to Scotland is reasonable comfort (maybe once a year).

Budget is low as it would spend most of its time parked up.

Is a Ser1 Disco too old, would a Disco ser3 be too jam packed with computers to handle standing on the road for weeks at a time? What is the problem with Freelanders is it's replacing a car and not trying to compete with a ser3 offroader ???

Or should i just get a picasso and be done with it LOL

just my initial gut reaction to the post, I've had both, xsara Picasso is boring but superbly designed and a top 2.0 hdi engine, its capable of mega miles, good mpg, high driving position, huge boot, got a lot going for it practically speaking, I chose the D1 for almost gizmo free but comfy landy fun,

the 1.6 hdi however is prone to start falling apart at around 80.000 miles though, so I'd forget that version, the 2.0hdi is a record breaker, there are some in France with 600.000 plus miles on the clock, it also until recently held the world record for longest distance traveled on a single tank of diesel, google it for details, only surpassed by another Peugeot.

I like the idea of another Landy, but i want to be able to get in and go without worrying if it was up to the trip.... and i dont know if Land Rover ever made one of those lol

I think its that concern that makes people keep up with landy maintenance, like a weird addiction, self sabotage, live dangerously vibe, i've sworn never to own another landy at least 4 times, but cant help myself, my other car, which I don't worry about, is a pug 406 2.0 hdi. I love it, and think that its one of the last ever cars designed to last, I consider any car designed after 2000 a throw away car with built in obsolescence, just my opinion, most will probably disagree.

Well there is a lot on line, i may have a look around the local dealers over the weekend?... now I doubt Ide get an offer of a car on here but you never know someone may have a disco 1 or 2 for not too much money on here .......... Well we can hope lol

But i guess a car would be a wiser choice :-(

LOL, my current car is a 1999 306 Meridian ..... just need something a bit bigger....

I think economically speaking, a car would certainly be a wiser choice, yes, sad face indeed, but at least you'd have more peace of mind. depends what you want to spend, there are plenty of well maintained d1's around with a wad having been spent on them, its just being willing to keep on top of it all I think.

look at 2.0 406's they go pretty cheap cos not many folk in the uk seem to know how damned good they are, research for yourself. I've had a 3 seater settee in the back of mine and been able to fully close the boot.

One plus point for the picasso (and there is only one), people with newer driving licences can likely tow your small caravan. Certainly a Disco, anyone who doesnt have +E on their licence is going to be limited to trailer tents, or very very light caravans.

Freelander, well you can go have a look at some Kent lanes in relative comfort whilst not holidaying

Well Ive been around for a while so not many restrictions on my licance any muddy work would be done in the ser's so this is just a car replacement. Must admit ive been very happy with the 306 so im kind of liking the 406 idea
