I bought a Disco TD5 XS last week. On the way home the ABS and TC light came on (along with the light that looks like the car is falling of a cliff) I don't have a manual yet to know what that light means  . When the engine was restarted, the lights went off. We wasn't sure what to do - whether to keep it or return it - but we chose to stick with it as the lights stayed off all weekend!
Out in the disco yesterday and the lights have come back on - once they are on - they stay on until the engine is re-started. The engine was steam cleaned before we bought it - could it be a sensor problem or are we looking at a costly repair???

In addition to the above, when you turn the wheel to the right - there's a funny noise - like something needs oiling - any suggestions?

The 3 amigos as we call the lights is a common problem a quick search on here will turn it up for you. A bit more detail on the noise will help to narrow it down for us to hav a more edukated guess. Could be CV, Brake or ACE details really help to narrow it down

3 amigos LOL. So is it a sensor problem or an ABS problem? And how do i stop the lights coming on?
The noise on the other hand - its similar to a grinding/groaning noise, quite a deep tone and quite loud! Noticeable more on the turn right, but can be heard to the left as well.

Never had a disco with fancy electronics but as I said lots of posts about it. The noise if it's only on turning could be a cv joint or something catching on the wheel or even a wheel bearing.

You dont say if you bought private or Garage with warrenty?

If it's the ABS sensors (which it usualy is) they are difficult to get hold of on there own and you usualy have to buy the whole hub,££££££

Your steering noise is it moving? stationary? Both? could be somthing realy simple like a brake disc protection rubbing on the disc or the pas pump saying "HELLLOOO" which mine does occasionaly sort of a groany hello.

If you have warrenty get it back to the garage!

Well, here's the thing - we bought it from a garage and it came with a "gold" warrenty which covered virtually everything! When these lights came on we called the garage back up and was told that since buying the car (Thursday) the warrently company had advised that they wouldn't cover the disco due to the milage - its over 100k. So they down graded it to silver - I've not got a policy booklet for the silver cover so I don't know what will be covered. We did ahve the option of taking it back - and the dealer said if we took it back he'd refund us the price, plus the tax etc - but also said that he'd be re-selling it for at elast £800 extra - it is a lovely car and immaculate inside - even when we went to view it the lady who showed us round it said that "he" was thinking of putting the price up - to which i questioned, and she said that to us it would be the current advertised price but if we didn't have it - it would increase!
It was my view that they maybe knew that the problem was simple, and figured they could earn more money from it!
How many £££££'s are we talking for the sensors - are they normally covered under warrenty and would that be classed as ABS or electrical?

As Pikey say's do a search, it's a common problem off the top of my head I think that hub & sensor is about £250 snakes! You will have to take it to a garage that can read the fault codes, it might be somthing and nothing or 1 sensor or ? OR ????.

The reason the other lights come on is that other things read the ABS sensor like traction control that applies brake to a spinning wheel.

Personaly I would try disconecting battery for 10mins to reset ecu, make sure that you have your radio code first though.

I think I will try that first :D I don't think we have a standard LR radio - so I don't think i'll need a code! Guess I need to find myself a LR friendly mechanic!

A guy I know that lives semi local & comes on here from time to time phoned me with the same problem well over a month ago and I suggested he did the same thing to start with.
