disco gear change problem

my disco MPI start to got this problem seen i bought it 8 month ago, at
the begining it only happen when changing from N to 1st gear, hard to
get it engage during the car still in move,and you can heard the gear
engaging crash sound, but is good when the car is still.
now it happen to 2nd & 3 rd gear change while the car still moving in
reasonal speed, and lesser efford to engaging the gear if the drive
speed is lower.
i would appreciated if i can get some advice regarding it.

If I understand correctly, there is a noise when you select 1st gear while
the car is moving. Either it is moving too fast or the synchromesh has worn
out. It is good practice anyway to have the car stationary when selecting
first gear.

For 2nd to 3rd either it's the synchro or maybe the clutch is dragging?

If you don't want to spend money learn to double declutch.

Push the clutch pedal down to change out of gear, release the pedal, and
push it down again to change to next gear.

My 300tdi has been crunching a bit into 2nd and 3rd for a while now. As I
am too lazy to double declutch, I have learned to let the revs drop a little
while the clutch is down before engaging the next gear. This stops a crunch
90% of the time.

If it really bothers you, I think i new or reconditioned gearbox is your
best option.

Sometimes it helps to 'blip' the throttle (very short push),
particularly when changing down. Just think "the Fast and the Furious"

Of course, most of the time you don't need the clutch at all. Just make
sure the engine revs are right, and it'll slide into gear no problem.
It's a matter of experience, but since they are crunching already, you
won't notice the time taken to get it right

Stuart (who started on two Series II 109" vehicles, which had no synchro
on first or second!)
