Hi Guys, I have a Right Hand Drive, 2004 Disco 11 TDI. It has developed a diesel leak, (significant when engine running, not leaking when engine off, however tank only quarter full) in what looks like above the fuel tank left side of car, but I think front left side of tank. I am unsure what to do, as blog's that I have read suggest that there is some kind of trap/hatch under the carpet in the back of the car under seat 6 & 7.The car is very well carpeted and there does not seem to be a simple way in. So, does the tank come out etc? help please.

It is very common for the fuel lines to chaff through between the in tank pump and the fuel filter. This is just up from the rear drivers side wheel arch. ( where the fuel filter is ).
The rear screen gets splattered whilst your driving.

The offending line can be repaired with a simple push fit plumbers fitting, or a complete set of lines from Landrover, ( getting on for £ 100 now ),which take a bit more effort to fit.

You can pull the boot carpet up and undo the accsess plate to see if one of your pipes has come off, but I,d say that is extremely unlikely.

Hey Thanks Del. The leak appears to be above the tank. The spray is only getting to the rear bumper. I pushed up the rear seats to see the start of the carpet, it seems to be held down by all of the interior plastic panels. Will I damage the carpet by doing this, or I suppose my question should be, is this an easy exercise?

If you get a flat bladed screwdriver and push it between the carpet and the rear carpet finisher, ( screwdriver facing rear ward ), and gently lever it up, the carpet will " give " sufficiantly for you to get your fingers in and pull it out. ( of the finisher ). Then you can lift the whole carpet as it is only " tucked " under the side seat housings. You dont need to take it right out, just " fold " it back enough to get at the accsess plate.

I.ll be interested to see what the problem is, as a leak from the top of the tank is unusual.

Hope this helps.

As 50 pence says, just check it's not where the fuel lines have rubbed on the cross member, as it only leaks when the fuel pump is operating.
The same thing happened to me. I did a patch job by inserting a new section of pipe and it's lasted over 2 years.

Thanks guys.

Sorted carpet, no leak at tank line and cable termination under trap. the leak is just as the line leaves the pump at the top of the tank and runs over the cross member. But really quite difficult to get at. Anyway, i am putting a sheath on it and here's hoping.

Now back to my rover P5B... never ends

Cheers
