My 200 disco has recently just started using more fuel than normal, about 20-25mpg to be precise. Its on offroad tyres but it used to do about 30 mpg with them on. Nothing major has happened since it got bad and I'm sure there's no leaks. It drives like normal but it just uses more fuel. Anyone seen this before? Any ideas? Cheers guys.

Also, I've started using bio diesel now and have not got round to changing the fuel filter. Could this have owt to do with it?

Would it really make that much of a difference? As I've been running on almost 100% bio.

remortage the house and put a full tank of proper diesel through it (not Tescos finest either) and i bet you'll see your MPG back where it used to be

am assuming it's properly serviced etc

mine is doing the same put £40 worth of bio diesel in which gave me 3/4 of a tank. Its inbetween 1/2 and a 1/4 tank now and has done 184 miles. i've done air, oil, and fuel filters and oil change. Does that sound about right to you fine people.

I use bio diesel toobut i put £60 bio and top up with shell diesel, when i did 100% bio diesel it was crap to drive now seems to mix pretty well and get the same milage out off it

Some commercial bio can vary in quality, this is one reason I make my own.In my case I average 26mpg brim to brim ,but mainly crawling in traffic work/school runs.I still have the egr to do and the decat pipe,so this may improve things. But it only costs me £10.00 per full tank.
Bio facts:
Bio has a cetane value in the 50's-derv is only in the 40's
Bio only contains 80% of the energy derv contains, but bio is a far superior lubricant.
Bio is a very active solvent and superb injector cleaner-but if you run bio,it will loosen all the rubbish in the tank and lines from derv and clog your filter-expect to change this in the first 100 or 200 miles.
Bio makes MOT's a breeze on emissions-expect 25% of your derv value(they think the machine is bust)

Thats interesting i havent changed my filter since i started using bio! Will do that tomorrow too now, do you mix your bio with diesel too? i was thinking of making my own bio but apparently its hard to source the oil for it

You will know when your filter needs changing you will get a reduction in power-won't go up hills etc-ultimately it will die on you, then you change filter at roadside!
In the really cold weather I have been adding 10% petrol to stop waxing, below -2c.Diesel can also be used as a co-solvent-bio and diesel mix in any proportion.
Bio making is potentially very dangerous-takes time, but is very rewarding-sourcing the waste oil is a problem, luckily I get enough for my needs and still stay under HMRC allowance of 2500lts/yr.Other than buying some petrol in winter my 300 tdi only goes to forecourts to pump up tyres.

I am going to change my filter tomorrrow as its is lacking at bit in power! It would be great to be able to make my own fuel but havent got no where for the gear needed
