Hi Folks
Has any one put a disco front axle in a 90 and what additional parts are required. I have read that the drag link on the steering box needs to be changed. Is this the case? and if so what link should be used. The axle is a 24 spline unit with only 40,000 miles on it wheras the old unit has been shagged by the rediculous 4" lift kit that makes the 90 handle like a drunk pig!!!! Any one want a 4" lift kit and some rediculiously aggressive off road tyres on steel modulars? Any reasonable offer considered

No need to worry about the steering just swap the arms off the 90. You may also have to swap the calipers over too.

BTW, the axle internals will not be affected by a 4 inch lift, it is the steering geometry that has changed and making the 90 handle differently.

You need to consider either castor correcting swivels or a castor corrected front axle casing. Do not use bushes (wear out quickly) or radius arms as they will bring additional problems.

what he said.,

i have both 24 spline axles under my old 90, i had to swap the link from the drop arm to the N/S hub for my old one.

Thats it!

Thanks for that. A may be a little thick but are you saying that you use the existing 12 spline link from the drop arm to the N/S hub.
Thanks again for your help
David

ok

the old ones are 10 spline not 12.

the number oif splines however has nothing to do with the steering, it is the number of splines on the inner end of the half shaft, that runs from the hub into the diff, both sides.

The drag link is the tubular rod that runs from the drop arm on the steering box onto the near side hub, in front of the axle. To remove this from the axle simply remove the nut off the end, swear at it and hammer it out.

(you may have to replace it cos its likely to be knackered anyway)

hope this helps!!
