Can anyone help. My 01 plate disco suspension went down on one side about a month ago, on the way to get it looked at, it suddenly raised back up and remained there. Until now that is, as of saturday both sides went down, right to the stops. can't get it back up, i'm assuming the compressor is U/S. Would i be better just converting to springs?

sounds like the one or both air springs have gone pourous.

Put it in off road mode and spray the air springs with soapy water, you'll see bubbles if they're leaking

Mine went down both sides a few weeks ago and wouldnt come back up. Had it checked out and found the compressor was full of mud and stuff and had burnt itself out. New one fitted and all working fine.

yes mate... **** easy to change. as easy as changing a light bulb. 15mins max

jack car really high put stands under chassis letting axle dangle
remove jack and put under diff pan.
take off wheel, jack axle slightly
carefully take off two clips at mounting at top and remove pipe.
remove bag like light bulb
lock new bag in
use jack to raise axle and get pipe on.
put clips back on
jack up axle really high to fool sensors into low ride height
close all doors including boot and open drivers window.
start car through drivers window and run for a few seconds to put just a touch of air in the bag
stop engine and check that bag is inflating properly and square
run engine again till bag inflated
put on wheel
take off stands and jack
whistle and be proud!

you may break the clips getting them off ... get a couple of new ones from landrover for £0.50p a shot on standby.
apart from the jack and stands, you'll need some nose pliers for the clips and a 10mm open ended spanner on the pipe to fit the bag...thats it
the close doors thing is a saftey override built into the SLABS ecu. so activating the compressor via the engine on has to be done through the window

spring conversions also require a visit to a main stealer to have them disactivate the 'Air' on the computer, so budget another 100 squids for that!

battenberg.
your a true pro- thanx for that was going to do it now being 9.oopm but was not sure if i had to de-presuresize the shock ?do i just undo the 10mm nut then and let the flow out on its own.

you shouldnt need to depresurise the shock. like you say this will happen when you undo the pipe.
but for future reference, you can depressurise the shock by undoing the pipe the other end. with the wheels still on the car.

on the chassis under the passenger seat is the compressor unit. undo the two turnbukles and remove the cover. at the front there is a valve block. use a 10mm spanner to undo the appropriate pipe just enough for it to leak air. this can be done at the side of the road.
the center pipe is supply air in, and the two outer pipes are the valve feeds to either side air bag.

why would you want to do this???

well....

...i've had a couple of air bags go pop now.

first was a ride height sensor fail that inflated it till it burst (v.scary!) luckilly very close to home (and stationary at the time) so limped back.

second was damaged while off roading and went down slowly while the car was set to extended ride height. on this occasion 'cos of the extended rideheight and the weight of the kit in the boot. I needed to deflate the other side (the good side) to level the car so I could get the car to somewhere for AA recovery.
driving it on the bumpstops without tearing out the blown side wheelarch by the tyre.

After all of that, I still personally wouldn't convert it to coils!

Hi,
this is just a quick overview of my airspring episode.
My disco would go down both sides and stay level, it would then reinflate no probs the next morning.
Sprayed soapy water on the airsprings and found that one had a leak replaced and all is well.
However I thought that it was starnge both sides had decided to deflate evenly even though there was only one leak in the airspring.
Apparantly the system is active even when the key is out and doors closed ( the doors have to be closed!), so the disco is sensing the ride height and adjusting the air in both springs to maintain it on a level playing field.
This snippet of info came from an independant LR garage owner.
But it dosnt explain why some go down one side only?
weird if you ask me, i have another hole in my rear spring , so Iam converting to coils tomorrow!!!!

yay!
