hi everyone hoping someone can help me i just bought my first landy an old 300tdi disco owned for about 4 weeks now and had a handful of problems already but its new problem i cant work out at all and im hoping someone can put a finger on it.... here goes when im driving along and i put my foot down after the turbo has kicked in it looses power but not totally and it comes back almost straight away.... i have been told it could be either my turbo has siezed (but its working) the turbo wastegate is siezed. or it just need a bloody good service. does anyone have any idea where i should start ? i have no idea about land rover this is all new so any help at all would be a big help.... thanks for reading hope to here from you soon...

Cheers ugly duck...

well im about to make my self sound stupid people keep mentioning EGR im not 100% sure i know what it is and yes it does still have a cat fitted ive been told to de cat it ? does this make any difference and if so why was it fitted in the first place ? cheers.

Hiya mate

As discussed I'd start by looking at fuel problems, air locks and filter/pipe blockages.

Black smoke on startup also suggests over fueling or a blocked air filter/resticted air inlet.

After this, get someone to rev the car whilst you watch the wastegate levers. You should be able to see them move as turbo spools up in boost/actuates the wastegate. Feel free to take the wastegate lever off and try and open/close the wastegate - with engine off. Make sure you mark the linkage position before you remove it though.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Cheers
Mark

p.s if your ever passing give me a shout i'll put the kettle on...
see you soon i want to see your series.......!

No bother, glad its running better.
Tip when changing oil is to drain it after a run, so the oils nice and warm. That way it will drain out easier, and new oil will stay cleaner.

Likewise if you're passing near LS16 (Westpark),give me a call re popping in to have a look at the series over a cuppa.

Come the spring, might be able to sort out some occasional gardening work for you about the place.

Cheers
