It has a mechnical lift pump which is fine for bio/SVO, it also has a proper mechnical Bosch Injection Pump (those Gerrys did another damn fine job on this one). Be careful with SVO in the winter, it can get quite viscous if its cold and it can be a problem simply getting it along the lines and through the filter which can then cause pump issues if its strugling to get some fuel.

I fueled my N reg 300tdi auto today and they had Bio diesel for exactly the same price as regular (morrisons supermarket) but apparently there is a place in Heywood that does it for £0.70p per litre.

I recently read in discourse about a doctor! using two-stroke oil mixed in with bio-diesel to help lubricate system internals. check discovery owners club for further info/help!

I've run mine on veggie oil for over a year now and as I understand it the challenges are much the same as Biodiesel. Whilst I've had problems with the landy, nothing has been down to the veggie oil. I've run various blends and added a heater block to de-gel the veggie oil (you can get an idea of ratio's used etc here.)

Two basic things though - colder temperatures are a nightmare so reduce the volume of veggie oil when the temperature goes down; and add cetane. I've also played with petrol mixes and various used and new oils. Best compromise (i.e. price/performance) seems to be used rape seed oil with cetane.

Lastly change your fuel filter often.

If the oil ratio needs to be adjusted in my 300tdi the lift pump tells me by becoming noisier, just add more diesel and it's sorted.
