disco 300 tdi 96

have two problems need help with

1 passenger side window
bring it down with switch, as it gets to the bottom it keeps clicking loud


Random problem
2 Turn key to start nothing happens keep turning it eventually starts

No clicking noises, starter not jammed .
Can any help ?

The 1st problem sounds like the arm has a worn tooth, not worn enough to stop it working but worn enough let the motor keep clicking away.

Regarding the 2nd problem, that sounds like its the immobiliser spider (relay thing). What happens is that the starter doesn't get switch, and so nothing happens, you can get to the spider (under the dash) and find the one for the starter and solder it onto one of the other outputs - this worked for our 300tdi.

If you are going to the trouble of getting in as far as the spider it may be worth considering the bypass harness which is available from Land Rover and fitting this . This takes the spider out of the picture .

As most people with a disco will know, this is a common problem. You could either fit the plug from LR or do the fix below (sorry haven't worked out how to paste hyperlinks yet!)

Hi Sheriff, The senior members of this forum are probably bored of coming up against this problem, there are loads of threads concerning it. Whole job took me about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Just watch out for the hidden screws holding the console in (whole thing should come out easy once you've taken all the screws out) and the last bolt to get the spider out can be a bugger to grip - same for putting it back in.

I have got all the centre consul area claered and exposed the spyder
Have not taken that out yet as I need the landy for work every day and am worried if I start soldering I might not get It back in time yes as you can guess I am not good at soldering

If you've gone to the trouble of getting the console off, you're nearly there. Soldering of the joints only takes minutes even if you're not practiced. Just remember to get the joint hot first before adding more solder. Hopefully, when you pull the unit apart, it will be quite clear which ones need doing. If you're really unhappy at soldering, just get the harness mentioned before from LR and plug it in, it does basically the same job I think

no problem helping out another newbie. Were the points that needed solder very obvious? They were on mine but did any that even looked suspect. If it's OK now, should be good for a few years. Look out in the forums for all the other tips as well. Your rear electric windows wil go next ;-D
