I took delivery of a new Discovery 3 in January, and was very impressed with it for all of 2 weeks. Then the air suspension started to play up & failed 3 times in following 2 weeks. LR dealership has now agreed to replace it, but in the meantime the Disco they lent me has suffered the same problem. The recovery agent who picked up the loan car told me they're having to collect "hundreds" of new Discos with the same problem - anyone else out there having problems?

I want to change my Disco 2 this year, took a Disco 3 out on test it's just full of electronics, even the hand brakes on a switch, don't think its for me.

Like most now models, teething problems start to show up.

I wholeheartedly agree that they've tried to get too clever. I had a TD5 before this which ran for 3 years without any breakdowns. That said, some of the gagetry is quite useful - and even the handbrake isn't too bad when you get used to it. Despite initially hating the electronic brake, my wife now quite likes it as it requires no force to apply/remove.

On the whole it's a great vehicle - but let down by poor reliability at present. I just hope they sort it out - quickly. This new Disco is supposed to have had more pre-release testing than any other production vehicle - I've not seen much evidence of that at present.

Yikes,

Is the Disco 3 unreliable. Any thoughts. Should people wait a year ?? or but somthing else

In retrospect I would probably wait a while to let them sort the problems out - but this was supposed to be the most exhaustively tested production vehicle of all time! Other problems have all been fairly minor niggles (mainly with the technology!). Suspension is the thing to look out for.

give it a year to get the bugs worked out its pretty much FORD now anyways they need more time than other companies

Other problems include: doors not sealing tightly (wet carpets after trip through ford); top section of tailgate can be difficult to close (bounces back); headlamp sensor either too sensitive & puts lights on all the time, or not sensitive enough - I've experienced both extremes; satnav screen blank; no sound from audio. Nearly all one-offs, except for tailgate problem - this seems to vary from car to car.

I have just got a disco 3, it was an ex-demo so apparently "all the niggles have been sorted". The second day I have it there is a supension fault! It is now in to the garage and i am awaiting a fixed disco.

Welcome to the club! I am collecting my second Disco today - I'll post any problems I find. They do appear to be able to fix the suspension problem by resealing the junction box, but mine had a dodgy computer too.

The symptoms were that as soon as you either drove off or tried to change the suspension height from normal to access or off road it would beep at you and a ,essage would come up as "suspension fault normal suspension height only". But it ended up only to be a wire had come lose. The other thing is my Disco seems to change my settings. Like the automatic door lock when you drive away seems to turn on and off of own accord. Anyway not the most major of problems.

Our disco 3 is superb, we've had it for over a month without problems.
Yes there is a stash of electrics but electrics are wear-free (aren't they?).
Took it across a flooded estuary bridge (tide in) with the wipers going two to the dozen and heart going even faster, resulting spray was coming over the top and I was wondering if it would make the whole 500 yards. Of course it did.
Superb fun. I'm just a bit worried about the AT tyres, look a bit too roady but at that size they'll have to stay until they're worn.
A few comments in the car park about the lower than mk2 ride height, but of course this can be raised for proper off road use.
Got it wet, now I can't wait to get it muddy.

Your suspension fault message is actually different to mine - mine couldn't raise itself up to normal height - so was stuck without any air in the suspension. New one has survived its first day - and has much less engine noise than last one. Seems odd that two new cars made just a few months apart can be so different. Fingers crossed!
Regarding the changes in settings - I've noticed that on two of the cars I've driven. Haven't had time to set this one up properly yet, so not sure what this one will do.
