Madness .... just sheer madness.
Nineteens wheels and offroad tyres!

Do these people not realise that the pneumatic TYRE is the first "shock-absorber" in the suspension?

The lower the profile of the tyre, the WORSE the ride gets, and off-road the more the suspension gets hammered.

Oh Dear ...

I am on my second D3. Covered 98k in the first and my second is on 32k. Both vehicles have been fitted with 19" MTR's from new. The MTR's are good for about 35k. I have to go off road all over the country surveying water storage tanks. These tanks are quite often located in remote areas. So I need something that I can nail up the motorways then onto un maintained forest tracks and back home. I have also entered the Protrax Desert Storm in Morocco in 06 and 07 with 19" MTR's and not had any issues with the tyres or suspension. We dropped the pressure down to 12psi in the dunes and again had no problems.
As far as the suspension in concerned the D3 is designed to run on 19"s so no issues there. However I can see your point if you were fitting 19"s to a vehicle that was not originally designed for them.

its not what you have done with it, its more what you could do with it. a tyre with a bigger sidewall will be better of road than one with a smaller sidewall. the reverse is true when its comes to hard, level surfaces.

the reasons for this are numerous but the main ones are the flexability of the tyre over rough ground and as yer maun points out the lessning of the shocks transmitted through the suspension.

for your particular needs you may well get by with 19's but if you was to get real seriously into rocks and stuff you'd suffer because of it

I totally agree if the going gets really tough we use a 110 utility with Zu rims shod with 285/75 R16 BFG MT. I was just pointing out that you can use 19" wheels and tyres with no problems for most 4x4ing in a standard car.

The Disco3 cant take 16" rims as the brake callipers are to big.

do disco 3 alloys fit striaght onte a disco 2 or do you need adaptors

You will need adaptors and D3 wheel nuts. The thread on the D2 and D3 are the same. The holes for the nuts in the wheel are smaller on the D3.

Hear is a picture of my sons D2 with 19" D3 HSE wheels with MTR's on.
