Well, they get alot of bad press. Why is that? As far as i can tell, they got a chassis, two steel axles and (most have) a diesel burner at the front, just like a proper land rover. No offence intended to the V8 crowd...:)

I ask because im spending alot on bits for my landy and spend alot of time under it, which isnt good when you have plans for expeditions. I have been thinking of trading it in for one of the last disco 1s, or an early TD5 disco as they seem to sell for next to nothing. Can you kit out a disco 2 with all the bumpers, lift kits (with cranked arms and wide yoke props ect.), winches and rock sliders? Or would a 300 disco be better, i would feel more at home with one anyway.

Any thoughs and/or constructivly directed abuse? Rich.

IMO, TD5's are nicer than 300Tdi's.

They don't rust, nicer drive (Especially if you get it chipped or modified in some way ;)), If something goes wrong you can plug something in and it will tell you what is wrong (That can be good or bad depending on how you view it... But you can get a little box of tricks for just over £200)

Major Problem's are air suspension (More than easy enough to change over to coils) and the electric problems (I.e 3 Amigo's)

You can still get all the lift kits, winches ect ect for Disco 2's just they are a little more expensive and less widley avaliable.

Having said all of that.... If you are going on a expedition i would get a 300tdi. Ratty and a few others have said they don't trust there TD5's because the first little problem they go into limp home mode and that ain't good if you are in the arse of no where about 300 miles from the nearest town!

You won't need a computer, very easy to fix, cheaper off road parts, parts cheaper in general and as you said you know your way around them.

But they rust badly :(

If you get a disco get one from before 1997? (I think) because that is when they started loading them up with electric ****e (I.e Fly by wire throttle cable)

On another note i saw you by B&Q the other day and waved but you ignored me :p
