Started doing the oil and filter on my Disco 200tdi. A simple job but after 2 hours I still cannot remove the oil filter. I have a wrench type filter tool that did nothing. Put a screwdriver through it and it bent the screwdriver.
I don't even know which to turn to loosen it but it doesn't move either way.
Need the car for work Monday.
Any tips?:mad::mad::mad:

Pretty crap screwdriver if it bent in an oil filter mate. Cant imagine how it got that tight. Dont know what to suggest really. An oil filter wrench should have done the job.

I use a screw driver through a wrench into the filter, the wrench giving extra leverage to turn the filter off.

Did you take it for a run to warm everything up or did it cold. If you can get some big stilsons or a plumbers wrench and use some leverage.

gently ??? tap the top outer edges wiv summit a bit.
seems no one "oiled" the rubber sealing ring before fitting it, and its self glued to the ally case.
you have to be cafefull not to damage the sealing face of ally filter "holder" though.

either that or might have to unbolt the ally bit from the block .. not sure about that tho` anyone???

Yeah, its not exactly a Snap On, more like Snap Off.

But which way should I be turning the filter?

So when leaning over the right hand wing I should be turning towards the block?
yes. If you are leaning over the wing and have whacked a screwdriver through the filter towards the engine then you need to be lifting the screwdriver handle to loosen the filter.

Just imagine that the top of the filter (where it screws in) is a clock face, then turn it anti clockwise to undo it. Did you drive the screwdriver right through the filter and out the other side, or just into one side?

He bent the screwdriver trying so must have whacked it right through unless it was a tesco chocolate screwdriver:D
