Hi All,

Wondering if anyone had upgraded the headunit in a Disco 2 ES (2003) - looking for advice on whether the sound improvement is noticeable and hassle / expense worthwhile?

Currently have original factory fitted unit, but have a 'spare' recent Alpine head unit with bluetooth / phone mic / iPod lead.

Existing system has the Harmon Kardon speakers but the CD cartridge is misising (i.e. the changer is installed under driver's seat but no cassette for CDs). Therefore only have radio and tape player at present!

Welcome your thoughts and advice.

Thanks,

DiscoDaisy

I have the same model disco as you and replaced the radio cassette unit with an aftermarket Kenwood head unit. I swapped back as there was a hissing that annoyed me that I could not get rid of until I went back. I'm not sure if it was the HK amplifier that caused it.

Yor original unit would not have been amplified as you had a seperate amp.
Yor new unit would have been amplified and supplied an amplified out put to the amplifer and this would be the cause of the hissing!

I had considered bypassing the amp but lethargy kicked in so I didn't!
