Hi there,

I am just starting off on designing a full tubular space frame for comp safari racing, looking at using disco 2 axles front and rear. Could anyone help with dimensions for bits like the size of the radius mounts (bolt size, and inside width or width of the bushing), and the position of the mount (width apart and distance from the centre of the axle to centre of the mount on the chassis perhaps).

Thinking of making the rear axle take radius arms with either a panhard rod, or i'll design up a Watts linkage system.

I am designing the whole thing using CAD first, then I'm intending to build next year :)

Many thanks,

Max

Afraid I can't help. But why Landy axles? I'd have thought if you where wanting live axles something stronger like a Toyota axle or maybe a Dana 44/60 would be a better bet?

Although I suspect if you are building from the ground up, then IRS/IFS would be the way to go.

agreed on the I.S. front and rear, would be better. But as its also my final year uni project, and itll start to over complicate things within the time scale I have. And I'm thinking disco axles as they are cheap, easy to get hold of, and simple. Might be tempted to try Range Rover Sport front independent suspension if anyone can help?

Thanks

Don't know how much use it'd be, but Simon at X-Eng is highly intelligent, think his built an Independent Defender in the past, might be worth shooting him an email. You never know.

As for the Landy axles, well the regular 10 or 24 spline ones fitted to classic RR's, Disco 1's and all Defenders are very common and cheap to get hold off. A Disco2 uses different axles, so will set you back more money to buy and modify. (Are you actually building this, or just designing it?).

Either way, some Dana 60's will be a lot stronger.
