The rear door speakers in my 99 Series 2 had completely popped, so I picked up a semi-decent set of Kenwood's 6" 1/2 for £20 (or AED 100 here in the land of sand, Dubai!) just to get some sound from the rear. They weren't subs but never the less looked half decent.
First I removed the black grill, then the surrounding casing, then the black housing the speakers actually sit in. Then simply press down on the black plug to disconnect it. Once out, I popped on the kettle (most important part!) and removed both speakers that were totally perished by unscrewing the rings that retain them in place. Turned the tray over and cut the connecting plug free. Bit down to reveal some fresh copper and connected them (stripey to stripey!) wires to the wires supplied with the Kenwood speakers. taped up em with some electrical tape and used the Twists to tidy up the wires so not to foul anything once back in the Disco.
Put the black plug back into its holder, Flipped her over (!) then screwed both speakers back by placing the retaining rings over them. Back down to my garage, plugged the connector back in, put the housing in, then the house case then the grill and finally tuned into 'Arabiya! and hey presto! Actually I thought the sound wouldn't be much better than the HK's but I was pleasantly surprised.
I'm in the habit of selling cars, BUT if I do keep this one, and I'm very tempted, then Ill be doing a complete double din install!
