Hi all,

I've found a couple areas where the chassis is starting to rot...

I've got a couple of pictures - everywhere else, the body and chassis is solid - front wheel arches are really clean and you can still see clean primer from the factory in places where it isn't undersealed.

These are the only bad spots - should I be worried about these?

The first is behind the air bags at the rear - almost identical both sides, the 2nd photo is behind the crossmember, near to a body mount.

Neither seem too bad from what I can see, should I be okay providing I cut this out and weld in new metal etc? Or should I be worried about needing a new chassis any time soon?

Thanks

Also check behind the rear shock mounts.

Once you start digging you might find it gets a lot bigger.

Plus check the front just where it starts to rise for the front wheel , just below the A pillar area.

But I have seen a lot worse.

Cheers

Thanks, don't feel quite so terrified now!

Will double check these areas to be sure.

Having just brought it, I was seriously worrying thinking I'd brought a dud

Cheers

Mine are rotten by the front crossmember mounting... both sides. Had a plate one side, will have to get the three other patches done after I sort out the bolts...

The most common rot, probably, is where the chassis dips next to the fuel tank, unless you are very lucky they all go there eventually.
Have good look there, you will probably find that either they have rusted along the seams of they have already been repaired in which case make sure they were properly repaired.
Best of luck:)
