Disco 2 brake line and bleeding

Hi folks.

Second post about this topic so I do apologise. Bloody newbies! Whilst 'tinkering' at the weekend I split a brake cable. After futher research I realise Im now going to have to bleed my brakes through. The landrover workshop manual says that I should raise the vehicle. Trouble is I dont have any axle stands. Is it necessary to raise it up or is it just to make the job more accessible. Any other advice would be great.

you dont need to raise it or remove wheels but it is easier with wheels off ,
