I have fitted 3rd row seats using parts purchased from a scrapyard.

The conversion has been straight forward as all attachment points are already in the vehicle, a 2002 XS model, apart from the seat-belt anchorages not being tapped. (7/16" UNF if you are interested)

However, I cannot get the seats to lock to the floor with the floor trim in place. Does anyone know if/how the locks can be adjusted to allow the seats to lock to the floor or what is causing the problem?

Hi Dave D,

Just a word of warning to you if your Disco is coil sprung. Your insurance is likely to be invalid as only air sprung 7 seater Discos are type approved by DVLA.

Thanks for the comment. It is air sprung but curiously the driver's handbook does refer to both coil and air sprung 7 seaters.

It is correct that the original type approval for the 7-seater was with air suspension, however LR UK sold accessory kits of seat sets to upgrade the vehicles to 7-seaters, and there is no mention of change of approval for those vehicles. Nor do the instructions insist on air-only vehicles being converted.

Our 1999 V8 GS Disco II was sold as a 5-seater, but when we bought it, it has 7 seats, all matching trim, only the swing-down head restraints were missing, and we picked up a pair of them with the different top trim and all screws etc for £40 this summer.

We also contacted our insurers re the change of seating over the declared 5 seats, and they changed it to 7 seats with no questions at all.

I haven't checked the spring colours to see if they were also changed.

There should be cut-outs in the floor carpet and foam insulation to allow the locks to reach down and hold on the bars that are set in the floor.

I'm out tomorrow, but if you're still having problems I'll take a couple of pictures.
