Its cheaper to make new stuff as long as it gets past the warrenty the maker dont give a fook i mean how easy was a old transit, mini,or any old car to work on, saying that the 300tdi is a really simple easy to work on ,time up ,change head on ,maintain compared to other derv,s of the same age ie any jap motor of the age was a pain in the ass the m51 in the bmw and range rover was a great motor (in the bmw anyway)but **** me its not simple speacial toOl for this that and the next thing

funny you should mention ease of working on we may slag off ****suslitty but the 2.5 td engine in a shogun sport or L200 is fookin **** easy to work on nothing gets in the way apart from taking the intercooler off to get at the head or the air filter chamber off to get at the turbo unit ok the engine was a bag of **** but the chinks knew it when they designed it that simple n easy :D:D:D

shame they didnt make the crank bearings a fair bit stronger and the bottom pulley bolts a lot thicker but hey its not an engine out jobbie for anything :D:D

Just to digress a bit about Transits, way back in the sixties one of our group companies ran transits with dropside bodies. BUT with perkins diesel engines and even a perkins engine with an AUTO box. Clutch from Cortina, but they could work hard and be repaired easily. Anyway just a memory now.

That would be why there was a bullnose version of the transit as the perkins was to long for the standard front end was 45bhp if i remember

that is absolutely correct. Glad to see that there are others as old as me.
45bhp, laughable now compared to todays vans.

Cheers
