Hi all,
can anyone help?, free play is evident in the steering on my disco, especially at 50-70mph, when it is most scary!. any ideas?

Thanks, macdisc.

wheels dont wobble, steering just feels like it is floating! changed the steering damper to a bilstien gas one about 3000 miles a go, cheers Battenberg

Tyre pressures? Any clunking or other noises associated with the steering? Then get underneath and check all your ball joints and bushes, front and rear as a duff bush at the back could still make it steer funny as the back axle could be moving. Also jack it up and give the wheels a shake to check for movement in the bearings etc. How much play is there at the steering wheel before the road wheels start to turn?

Hi Hughesy,
Thanks for the reply. Tyre pressures are ok. I get a binding noise which slightly vibrates through the steering wheel at parking speeds! Ball joints all seem ok. Replaced track rod & bj's,& watts linkage bushes on back axle about 6000miles ago. Jacked up front wheels last night, no play on wheel bearings, & steering rods move ok. steering uj's seem ok. there is 3" play before the road wheels turn (with the engine off.) thanks macdisc

I got this prob
Funny smooth grinding noise parking
Unsure at speed
Follows the lines in the road
Hit a bump and there is a shake from side to side
