Does anybody have a disco 1 fuel tank laying around that can tell me the outer dimensions of it??

I have just got a bobtailed disco and the fuel tank is in the back and all boxed in. I want to know (before i take it all apart) if i can remove all the wooden boxing and fit the tank sideways and bolt the seat back in behind the drivers seat.

Just need to know the dimensions of the tank please? :)

you wont get a standard tank in a disco, definately not to tip it on end...sender wont work and you wont get fuel from pickup lines...why alter whats already there and workig (presumably)

No i dont mean tip it on its side lol. I mean spin it 90 degrees.

I duno if its square or not thats why i need the dimensions to see if it will fit alongside the smaller one of the 2 back seats

29.5"x32"

Just measured the one sat on my garage floor for you :)

Cheers robbh ill do some measuring tomorrow.

If its too big does any of you know if this could be a straight swap?

And also.... Is the pump likely to be inside my disco tank or outside of it under the boxing somewhere?

If its any help, I have the original tank in my bobtailed disco with the one single seat in. Don't get me wrong it's a tight fit! I got the filler up where the rear window was. Mines not boxed in yet as not had the time. Could put some pics up on Sunday if u think it will help?
I also guess it would depend a little bit on how much of a bobtail it is.

Yeh that would really help, so i can picture it better.

How much was chopped off yours?

if its a diesle then there is no pump in the tank its the lift pump in the engine, the connectors on your tank is for the sender unit, basically send signal to tell you how much fuel..

So that link i posted in post #7 with the marine tank... Would that be a straight swap?... It just has a float and sender unit in it

fyi though my custom tank sits in back and is higher with standard sender in, can take a few more cranks to get it started than it used to so assuming fuel must run back into tank or has air lock in..not sure but doesnt bother me

Doesnt matter about pics now ive sorted it now by putting it sideways on the right hand side ontop of the arch and built a box under it to sit on :)

like I say guess the amount that's been cut off the back would make a bit of a difference.

There is no way id fit mine like that as its had more chopped off.

What they like for MOT's like this?

Yeah I thought that from your picture.
I'm not a 100% sure about MOT, haven't had the truck long enough to put it through one. When I got the truck it was just put in the back loose with the seats folded up!
I was told that as long as it is secure and can be filled from the outside it should be ok, so fingers crossed as MOT isn't far off!! Got some rust to sort out first mind!

If u were still interested in a smaller tank the chap I got the disco from was saying he was going to fit a tank from a defender 90 as all the fuel lines and wires are a straight fit. But I haven't looked into this.

Hmmm, i cant fill up from outside (yet) still need to make some adjustments for that.

Apparently the tanks out of lotus's fit in the back behind the seats, straight swap but ya fuel gauge is backwards so empty means full n full means empty lol
