Sounds just like mine
Tonks, currently got a 110 300 with HG blowing out the back of number 4, at the very back middle of the engine.
In your experience have the engines needed head work?
It just throw a new 3 hole gasket on and be done with it??
Just weighing up the job you see![]()
The vacuum pumps can wear and rattle. Sounds like top end type noise but more from drivers side!
Is a rattling vacuum pump anything to worry about?
The two I've changed were working fine just noisy. I'd imagine if left long enough it may damage the lobe on the cam!?
What is it that fails or wears in them to make the noise?
It was the vac pump!
Thankfully I managed to get a new (well, second hand one) one fitted for less than £60. Thanks for the info chaps!
And while we're at it, what oil would you recommend for a 300tdi operating in a hot climate?
Cheers!
Whereabouts in the world are you ?

My Land Rover has a Soul.com - these are great for info and trekking round ...
Cyprus - so I suppose about a 5-35 degree range. I think the average is about 20, but in summer it pretty much doubles that.
Also, if anyone can point me in the direction of a Land Rover expert out here then that's much appreciated - I wish I was in the UK sometimes, you guys don't know how lucky you are!
