Hi all,

New to disco ownership and having spent the past three weeks welding up and repairing my "cheap and cheerful" disco I haven't managed to get to the bottom of a clacking noise that comes from the O/S front hub area on left hand turns (when it's loaded up) and also when offroading and hitting bumps... any ideas? I've replaced the bearing in there as it was collapsed and it just passed an MOT with no issues.

Cheers

Phil

CV Joint, Swivel joint, front prop UJ's ... but almost certainly CV's ...

Indeed... unfortunately I purchased the wrong side off of sh*tBay... DOH! The right one's now on it's way so I have a n/s/f half shaft and CV if anyone wants it!

CV joint is the same for both sides. Hold the shaft (that goes to diff) and gently tap cv off with hammer, its got an internal circlippy thing holing it in place. I assume it is the cv joint you are wanting to change yes? If its worn it clicks on full lock.

I diont get the traditional CV clacking on full lock, symptoms are as described in the first post, this was why I asked as it wasn't classic CV symptoms.

changed the whole driveshaft and CV joint... noise has got a lot quieter and less frequent but still there....!!! any ideas? diff?

Jack both wheels off the floor put on handbrake, put transfer box in neutral and spin the prop by hand and you will hear if the diff is knacked or not.

Doesnt seem to be anything wrong with diff... now wondering if broken spring? or similar? This is driving me nuts!!

This is now driving me totally nuts! The noise is still there...

Have removed the 4mm of end float in the drive shaft by shimming

Appears to be no horizontal plane play in wherl hub so wheel bearing ok - nipped it up none the less.

No vertical plane play so swivel joints ok too... Removed one of the thin shims anyway.

Anyone got any idea???

Are the retaining springs broken or missing on the brake pads? You will be able to tell if it stops rattling if you apply the brakes.

What what the problem or solution please. As am having the same problem as going over humps and bumps, a noise coming from offside front tyre then also at the back of the car on occasions?
