Dipstick wont go in!

Got my first freelander the other day. Went to check the oil and the dipstick only goes in about 2 inches. Any ideas what the problem might be and how to resolve it. Thanks in advance.

i've heard this is a common issue with freelander owners

mine is hard to get in , but i still manage to get it in....
