Morning all - so to the next Challenge... Wiring and Relays for Dipped Beam.

When I got the Landie a few weeks ago none of the Headlight units worked.. so I bought a couple of new Buckets - WIPAC, old ones were shot and a set of lamps with H4 bulbs... the Indicator stalk was also shot so ordered a new SIII one from Britpart and fitted.

Started fitting over the weekend, Buckets went in OK once I figured out all the gubbins, Indicators, Side and Main Beam all OK - flashing but no Dipped Beam?

I remembered the Infra Red Switch from previous Lightweight and can hear clicking of the Relay on each click of the 6 way switch. The Infra Red Switch has been removed and the Blue Black to Blue connection has been made... so I checked with a Bulb test lamp and downloaded the wiring diagram.

Connection 3 on the Switch goes Live on the HST position and the Blue in the Column also goes Live... any shortcuts to get them working, like wiring direct from Switch to lamp even though that would bypass Flasher?

Any ideas - is it likely to be the Big Relay? or a broken wire do you think? Couple of pics attached hope they help... guidance from people that have been here before sought! Thanks

ANSWER - SOLVED For Other Lightweight Owners In Case it helps...

So spent another happy hour diagnosing and came to a solution... I went back to the stalk and took the steering cowling off. When I fitted the new S3 Light Stalk I connected Blue on the Stalk to the Blue on the 3 Pin Original Connector - this was showing 12V live when the headlights were switched on HST position.

So I tracked the lamp cables at the front behind the shut panel - Greeny/Blue (colour fade so not 100%) thought (wiring diag says Green/Red) with a Red Stripe which seemed to feed the Dipped Beam to both sides, with one extending through and in front of the Radiator to the Nearside, same with Main Beam.

The Blue and White cables at the shut panel feed the High/Main/Flashing beam.

At the steering Column stalk, the six way block has a Greeny/Blue and Red connection - I concluded that I needed to feed the 12V from the Blue wire, (live when Dipped Headlights on) into that Greeny/Blue and Red which fed to the lamps at the front - so I made a short cable and Scotch locked it in at the Steering Column
Back to the front and I could then feed that wiring to the right Bulb connection and et voila Main beam started to re-appear... first on the right, then on the left.

Beyond that one side of the Main Beam was not plugged into the Blue and White 4 way connector at the Shut Panel and an Earth was also adrift... gradually it started to come together.
A lesson from another poster on here is start with all the Bullets at the shut panel - take them all out, sand the connectors, WD40 the wholes and re-connect checking every Earth in particular...

Now, whether that is me down to wiring the Stalk in incorrectly or the Standard S3 Stalk being slightly different to a Lightweight original stalk I don't know, as I binned the crappy original so can't check...

Anyway, as someone famous once said "Let there be Light"

- Blue to the Red and Green and

"Then there was light, and you could see for Bloody Miles"

Not sure who that was - maybe I just made it up! Hope that helps someone in the Interweb one day! I trawled for a solution but it was nothing to do with Relays...
