Have just changed my difflock switch as it was not working - found a wire not connected to the old one but as I had bought a new one, I changed it anyway. Weird thing is that the light works when not in difflock, but goes out when put into difflock... Any bright ideas?

Have you wired it to the switch properly?

It sounds as though it is wired up to the NC conections rather than NO, which would give you an indication when you are in normal drive rather than in diff lock.

All I did was screw the new switch in and attach the two wires to the terminals at the top - didn't think even I could mess that up! Assume there is only one type of switch...

how far did you wind switch in there not supposed to go all the way otherwise light may stay on and diff lock selector will be jammed from moving,i set them with continuity tester in enough to connect the two contacts ,but you could keep trying with light turn it enough to bring light on then back till off then in till just works everytime, switch has live breaks earth so one swide to earth the other to dash.prc2911 is switch

have tried backing it off a little but no joy - it just goes off completely. I have not screwed it in all the way - I put the lock nut from the old switch on the new switch - assume that is correct. There seemed to be only two wires to use - both feed back to a bundle of other wires, two of which seem to go to the reversing light switch...

you may have wrong wire fitted difflock usualy has one and one earthed but depends on where earth is earthed ,fit one to earth ie bolt on t/box and try one of other wires
