Diff question

Bought a used diff from a reputable landy place for my 2001 90, problem is they have supplied me with one from a P38,Are P38 ones stronger, and if so is it worth modifying ( if possible ) to fit defender.

a p38 one wont fit its a bigger axle casing

The internals will fit but the casing as stated above is too big.

It will need machining to size though.

I read a thread about this somewhere ill try and find it.

Found it.

4 Pin Differential - p38 and defender.......

I think if it was me, i would ring ashcrofts or devon4x4 and get there advise.

If you google "p38 diff in defender axle" Then a few posts come up. Have a trawl, see what you think.

swap it for proper one, you can get 4 pin diff carriers for disco 1 and defender diffs if you think necessary

picked up replacement and that was shagged, so have ordered a recon unit, bit pricey but at least i can finally get it fitted and forget.

I have a used but serviceable standard rover diff for £60 plus shipping.....

Came off mine when I fitted the locker.
