Hi all recently replaced rear diff in my series 3 ,totally strippled spline due to no oil.... having replaced and refilled oil noticed small leak from bottom of axle casting. Drained removed and welded, refilled all ok. My question is does anyone have any experience of the diff guards u see for sale? are they a good idea? i do off road my series at play days so worried about axles getting damaged again. In my mind i can see that a guard on front is likely to stay in place but wouldn't the rear one just get pulled off on a rock? they only appear to clamp on and don't "cup" the pan but just sit under and up one side? Hope this makes sense be interested in anyones experiences of them. Many thanks Matt.

Not convinced on the clamp on type for the reason you mention. I went for the wraparound type which bolts to the output side of the diff, goes right under and then bolts on the front top. It's rock solid and almost acts as a slider as well as a guard. Got mine from paddocks they are about £40 I think. Galvanised too so should last ok.

Thamks for the reply Innzy i look into them now. Lovely pictures of your series took my roof off when i put the roll bar in the back, gave it a quick drive without and it was so much nicer! Not to good in this weather though so it went straight back on. Looking forward to warmer weather to take roof off again
