I'm trying to replace the pinion seal and flange on a Range rover diff that came off my 88. As the seal was leaking and the original flange isn't in the best of Shape.I got told that stc4858 is the correct flange/ seal kit for the job as it supersedes frc3002. But it doesn't seem right. The mud shield on the flange fouls on the case even before being set at with the torque wrench.
Thee new flange is the same hight as the old one and the spacer (60mm), also that mud shield is specified for that type of seal (photos attached). I think the lip on the outside of the seal goes inside the metal shield and acts as a second dust / mud shield. I may be wrong.?
I tried to get answers from a Facebook group with no success so I was hoping this forum would help a bit more.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
