Diesel that wont start

Hi all,
2 1/4 diesel S2a. Help please! My series 2a simply wont start. Appears that no fuel is getting to the injectors.

I fitted a new fuel lift pump, filter, glow plugs and resistor but to no result.

I have bled the system at the filter, and at the 2 side bleed screws on the injector pump, but nothing is coming out of the injector pipes apart from a drop of diesel.

Could it be that the injector vane is jammed?

The valves are turning so the timing chain seems to be intact.

Hi, the stop cable also seems to be working the cam on the injector pump ok.

A possible solution! ;-)))

It does sound as though the vane is jammed and this is not particularly uncommon if the car has been stood for a long time. You can sometimes free these by gently tapping the top of the injector pump with a soft mallet (or a block of wood if you do not have a rubber mallet) whilst somebody is turning the engine over. It is also worth checking that the stop cable is operating correctly. If that does not work then you will have to remove the injection pump and get it checked out at a diesel specialist.

The injection pump on that engine I believe is driven by a quill shaft which can shear / strip . Do you have any information on the pump?

When you say a drop of diesel, is that one drop after another at the injector end of the pipe? You wont get a great quantity of fuel, the volume delivered is low although the pressure is high.

Have you tried cranking the engine with the unions on the injectors loosened off ? I always bleed my system with hand prime/fuel filter banjo undone/ side of pump bleeds undone and then crank as above. Never failed yet but........... Are you getting good flow from hand prime ? if not turn the engine over half a turn to get on back of cam.

Hi all, thanks for comments.
After another three hrs today we have come to the conclusion that the distribution cav pump is snafu.
All screws bled on the pump, all pressurised, but nothing out of the injector pipes. According to land rover mag and a forum member, the pumps shaft can sheer.
So, off to recon we go.....

Yeah!!!! After lots of hours she finally starts!!! Thanks to Sheaf Diesels in Sheffield for rebuilding the goosed injector pump. Thanks to previous owner for running her on chip oil :-(.
