HI

I have recently started getting a smell of diesel in the cab when the car is still but when its moving there is no smell. I opened the hood and you can smell it but I couldn't see any leaks and there are no patches on the ground. Any Ideas. Also it looks like my lower oil cooler hose is leaking, does anyone know where to get hoses from or is it just as cheap getting a garage to do it.

I had this, when i opened the bonnet and looked in from the passenger side at the rear of the engine i had a small leak going down the block and diesel was sitting on the fins. It was coming from the rear most injector as there is a small rubber pipe which ends the leak back system, it was perished. I changed this and cleaned the diesel off and smell gone.

Just my 2p worth.

Hi Chaps,

This exact problem happened to me last week - and I have only recently purchased the car (MY 2000 DHSE) so I was a little concerned that it might be something serious.

Thanks to this thread though the problem was isolated and fixed within a day or two. The pipes on mine were pretty shot so it wasn't a 1/2 hour job - took more like 2 hours. The main culprit was totally perished through and the braiding from the outside of the pipe was everywhere - also the pipe pulled apart while trying to remove it.

The pipe required is 3.2mm I.D. fuel hose - you can buy this from an autofactors but the O.D. might be a bit too big to fit into the constricted space - as was the case with the stuff I bought. So I then went to the dealer and had a look at the microfiche - the parts only cost €8 - and the part codes are:

1 x STC2843 (31mm pipe from Injector last injector to injector pump)
5 x STC3875 (16.5mm pipes to join injectors)

Hope that helps someone.

Thanks,

Andrew.
