Diesel Pours out when filling tank

Hi, I have just taken delivery of a 2004 Disco 2. A td5.

I went to fill it with diesel today. When the pump said it had delivered 88ltrs and still wanted to add more I kept going as the gauge was on low with the light on when I started. However, after pumping a little more I noticed diesel pouring out from under the rear of the car !!!! We cleaned the mess up at the station and I drove the car the 1 mile back leaving a trail of diesel on the road behind me. Not particularly pleased with my first venture with a Land Rover. Is this likely to be a pipe come off somewhere or a damaged tank? John

Hi,

Try a search for fuel pump replacement, it will show you how you can get to the cover for the fuel pump, you may find a pipe is loose / has come unclipped . or a pipe is broken.

Good luck

Not had a disco2 completely to bits as I didn't own it for long enough, but on a disco 1 or range rover I'd say you have a rotten filler neck / hose. Crawl under the wheel arch and inspect it from the filler down to the tank. You may be able to cut the rot off and fit a longer hose to save a few pounds

Hi, Do a search onthe "green pipe" this may help too especially if it only occures when the engine is running.

Had the same problem, took the inspection cover off and found the fuel pump locking ring was undone and the fuel pump was sticking up,just retightened the ring, that was the hard bit without the correct spanner
