my 1996 diesel range rover p38 from cold starts perfect if i drive it and the engine reaches normal running tempriture and it turn the engine off when i go back to it and start it again the engine will start but it will rev itself up to 2000rpm the drop back down to idle speed and the engine check light stays on untill the engine is cold again then its fine again anyone help please:)

ok thanks for the help with that. when the engine is on low revs the engine check light comes on until you rev it up then it goes out untill you let the revs die down thn its back on could that be crank sensor or the needle lift sensor aswell?

Yes. Engine revs are determined by the crank sensor and the needle lift sensor. If the crank sensor fails, the ECU doesn't know the engine is running when you lift off the throttle as the signal from the lift sensor stops. It could be either, but I would look at getting the codes read first.

jst to let everyone no that i have had the fault codes read and it was due to a lack of fuel preasure which then we found out that injector one and three were leaking whick i have had fixed
