Hi All,

Had a big issue with RR is kept losing power and cutting out on motorway then failed to start. Eventually got it towed home. When on ignition 2 with engine pump buzzing undid inject feed pipe on cylinder 1 no fuel was coming through. The car started then cut out immediately. The filter hand pump only pumped once. Car had plenty of diesel. There was a leak from the tank of diesel but always had this.

I really dont know where to start looking and testing.

Can anyone help me with a list of what I can check and do please?

Thank you.

Top of tank will need to cut access hatch to look but be interested to know where I can start looking and checking common symptoms

You'll have to be cranking to get fuel to the high pressure pipes as the FIP is driven by the engine.

If you take the fuel filter off and put an ice-cream tub under you should be able to bridge the lift-pump relay and see if it is working. In the Technical Section look for posts by @Wamners. He's put how to check the lift pump including the minimum amount to expect in 30 seconds.

Odd. Even with dead lift pump if the engine is running it normally keeps going.

Is there a hole in your fuel line somewhere?

If lift pump needs doing then drop the tank. Not as big a job as you think and on later cars with 2 exhausts the brake lines go behind the tank and tend to rot through in the damp there.

Ok brilliant thanks guys. Sorry is the lift pump in the tank or where fuel filter is?

Car played up when I changed the return fuel lines it's always had a leak around them and tank always had a dribble.

I will look in wammers technical section see what I need to do.

Ok thanks mate the clear tube on my is filthy on the inside so will put a new one on. Sounds like pump on tank has had it so will drop the tank etc. Thanks for all your help much appreciated again
