Diesel engine in petrol registered car

Hi, I acquired my Milady Landy (UK licence LVC 748V) in 2007 in the UK order to import it into the Netherlands and restore it. Now my restoration is nearing completion (see https://www.facebook.com/MiladyLandy) and I will be registering the car in the Netherlands.
At the time I bought this car from the previous owner it was equipped with a diesel engine, although the V5C registration certificate indicated a petrol engine. I questioned the previous owner about that during the sales process and he answered me that indeed a diesel engine was mounted. From the build of the engine and the state it was in when I dismounted and restored the vehicle, I conclude that the engine has been in the car for quite some time.
Now I am about to have the vehicle registered in the Netherlands, I am told I need proof of the history of the engine, because it is different from the registration.
Can anyone maybe direct me towards information on how to get the required information on the engine and the possible legal documents related to engine and car?

It would seem someone changed the engine without updating the documentation and I would not be so sure you will be able to obtain anything you don't already have.

Did you ask them what would happen if you couldn't prove the history of the engine? Could you not just say you have put "another" new engine in and start fresh.. I mean it didnt have an engine when you imported it did it ;) ;)

Think it might have to do with stolen parts. You got to prove where the engine came from, ( who you bought it from were they legal owner of the engine.)

Unless there is history of the engine change then, this could be a bit of an issue for our dutch friend?

Is there anyway to get in touch with the previous owner, GertJan?

The DVLA sometimes ask about the history of an engine when changing. I just wrote them a letter saying it was the previous owner that changed it and I didn't know anything about where it came from other than it came out of a disco (checked the engine number). There was nothing more I could say to them really but they accepted that and sent a new V5 out. Maybe try the same?

At worst you will need a receipt for the engines purchase, old and new engine numbers, proof the work to fit it was carried out to a roadworthy standard and maybe more. At best, write them a begging letter with as much info as you have including new engine number and how long the engine has been in place and you may get lucky. Depends if it hits someone's desk at 4:45pm on a friday or someone with too much time on their hands!

can landrover not send some docs from the id confirming what engine it is

or i think some people have tried it on before by just printing a letterhead and saying x scrapping landy sold engine to y.

not that you should do such a thing, but how can they even tell and why do they care as long as the engine id isn't in the police db?

I asked the DVLA yesterday what to do (basically my first message in this post).
They replied today saying:
Dear Mr ter Haar
Thank you for your email received on 5/6/14. Your email reference number is 2120083.
It is not possible to send a V5C UK Registration Certificate outside the mainland UK. You can apply for an export certificate by filling in Application for Certificate of Permanent Export form V756 (which you can download from www.gov.uk/taking-vehicles-out-of-uk) and returning to the address below:
DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1AG
Fax: 01792 788378
As the fuel type is wrong, please include a covering letter with the application for the export certificate.
You will receive your V561 Export Certificate within 6 weeks.

It seems this will solve my problem.
I will update on this forum when I receive the paperwork.
