Hey guys. So tonight I had to get recovery wagon to take me home. Why I hear you ask?

Well fuel started pi**ing out of the dizzy pump. I have the later type with the pointer for timing. It's leaking from the side of it from what looks like an inspection cover, see pic below.

Can I simply remove this plate and make a new gasket or should the fuel not even be reaching there?

Thankyou! !

Is it possible your talking about a injector pump ? This Dizzy thing is usualy for a petrol engine ..also known as a distributer............(for sparks)

IIRC, the plate covers the metering valve, and it will leak badly when the gasket fails. AFAIK, said cover is access for changing the quantity of injected fuel - thus, you should be able to remove the plate, make a new gasket, fit it, and live happily ever after.... I did a search for some pictures of the internals of the CAV pump to remind my self,,, but couldn't find any - perhaps you'd do a search, or post a pic of the pump itself up - pref with the identity plate showing and I'll have another look....

You have given me an answer I was very hopeful to hear!! It certainly did leak badly, over the space of no more than 5 seconds it squirted a good 7 pints of diesel onto the floor.

I know it's the cav dpa 3248760 that is operated via cable and not a lever.

Doodle bug. I know it's an injector pump but in my head I always think of it as the diesel distributor in the sense that it distributes diesel via a rotating shaft in the same was a dizzy distributes a spark

Just my way of remembering how it works.....sort of
