I never heard of diesel bug until a few months ago. A guy I deal with has just spent 14K on machines to clean the entire fuel system on diesel and petrol vehicles.

You wouldn't think any thing could live in fuel, just goes to show what garbage goes into modern fuel.

you would be amazed at what bacteria can live off

about 15 years ago i know that there were large scale trials of a bacterial leaching system to remove copper from mine slag heaps as the bacteria would "eat" the copper ore for the sulphates and then leave the copper in a liquid that could be extracted by electrolysis.

then there are the deep sea extremophilles that live of sulpher

quite interesting when you start to read around it and the liklyhood of life on other rocks in the solar system becomes more feasible
