I had never been to either venue and decided to go to Newark and camp over on Friday and Saturday. The deal clincher for me was the bad press re thefts and facilities at Billing.
I arrived mid afternoon at Newark with my 20yr old son who is an outdoor guy who camps on mountains in winter.... very handy as it was raining. Security and organisation at the gate was good. Given a welcome pack, bin bag, crayons
show guide and wrist passes.
Directed to a good size plot marked out with white wash. Tent was up in 5 minutes and we went to explore the show. Lots of people about and many camping and caravaning.
By now the rain was getting heavier but we spent a few hours looking around. We found the bar/entertainment/food and it was clean, a good size with nice big tables for groups. Beer £3 a pint. A temp shop for basics and a news paper. Plenty of clean toilets.
Next morning the storm had blown through and we did the off road course at 10am... they let us go around twice. It was well marshalled and quite testing for a basic 90... I thought it was suitable for all with bypass for anything too tricky. They let us go around 3 times on Sunday and for £9 a day... very happy. Camping and entrance was £40 for 2 nights/3 days for 2 of us.
They had good security on foot and in slow moving vans. People I spoke to felt relaxed and I saw no trouble or heard of any thefts.
Despite the heavy rain... no mud in the show ground and camping was easy. Great venue and I would go again.
I think it will be better next year and more exhibitors will be tempted if the 2 magazines want to go head to head:doh:
