Hi All,

Just had my series 2a petrol 2.25 serviced. Only had 5L of oil at the time, after doing that it seemed a little under half full according to the dipstick.

I just added another 4L. However i have a feeling that seems excessive, it kept taking it though. So a total of 9L.

Have i put in too much, if so is this a big issue? If so, how easily/quickly can i rectify this? I intended on taking it for a good 20-30 mile drive tomorrow morning.

Cheers,

WHAT?? did you give it time to settle or just keep chucking it in? where does it read on the dipstick now??

Do you know anyone who has an oil vacuum unit? may save you getting mucky.

Cheers

Sump plug.
Get a large clean tub and with the oil cold undo the plug , catch the oil and shove the plug back in when you've drained a few ltrs. Might make a mess if you drop the plug .

Drain from here?

I would suggest you leave it and get someone who is competent to show you what needs to be done and watch / help / take directon fomr them before you work on it.

If you do decide to drop the engine sump plug, you will not be able to control the oil and only remove a few litres, if you try and control it, you will end up wearing a great deal of oil.

Cheers

Lol! How did you drain the old oil?
And from where?
Reminds me of an old neighbor of mine. BMW of some sort with the oil warning light on so off she went to Halfords to ask advice and came back with 5 ltrs of the correct oil, topped it up to the brim but the oil light still wouldn't go out, she asked about at work and some bloke looked at the oil level (up to the brim remember) and concluded that there was a blockage somewhere stopping the oil getting to the engine.
She then knocked on my door asking for advice so I popped the bonnet and she showed me the full to the brim power steering reservoir (it even had power steering wrote on it !).
Sump was nearly empty so sorted that for her, oil light now out.
Sucked the engine oil out of the power steering reservoir and all good.
