If I leave the car (p38 1996 DSE) in normal height, and walk away, it drops within minutes (literally, minutes). If, on the other hand, I leave it on high profile and walk, it will stay there for days without sagging. Valve block rebuilt. Any ideas?

bottle of washing up liquid and water time! go arouns and spray any connections you have, check the culletts, if you have any bubbles from the washing up liquid remove the pipe from the cullett cut off about 1" if you can spare it and reconnect. it should stop the leak .

my guess is perished airbags the bags fold over as they lower and there will be line cracks I suspect that on high profile the cracks seal themselves pull the fuse for the eas and see which bags allow it to sag

Well it cannot be the valve block that's for sure. If the valves don't leak with the higher pressure required by high mode, they certainly won't leak on the lower pressure standard height needs. Leaking airbags or connections to them i would guess. The higher pressure required for high mode is sealing the bags or connections. Just like putting more pressure in a tyre will seal bead leaks.

Yes, thank you all for your responses that were spot on! I sprayed the bags on a number of occasions but always on high profile as it was easier to crawl under the car. Big mistake. Now, 4 new gen-II are on their way. With my 4 new Bilsteins I should be good for years...

Gen II's are the way to go....ride is so much better....

But its not so fun changing them at -2 Degrees with no mechanical knowledge....

I would think that my shocks are 10years old, would these need replacing too??

PS - Ask Datatek for the guide, its a massive help...

Push on each corner as hard as you can and let go. If it oscillates more than once - time for new shocks. For reference- do the same on a brand new car. Actually a safety issue on uneven roads.

I've been wondering about my shocks as it's started rolling more than it used to on corners. Does that sound like shocks?

I'm clueless about what brand to replace them with though. I don't want to make the ride harsher adn the various threads I've read on the subject don't seem very illuminating.

I didn't think the bounce test worked on air suspension?

lots of people seem to get the gen 2 airbags. what is the advantages?i just replaced mine with dunlops .iam sure they are standard equipment.are the gen 2 ones stronger?

Well one advantage is the lifetime warranty, although I don't know how many of us will still have our P38s in 10 years time!

One of the bases on my new Gen II rears shattered after 2 weeks so I'm slightly less impressed than I might be with them.

lifetime warranty sounds good, are they much more expensive than dunlops?i paid £115 for 2 fronts, mine is a 96 model and they are the first set replacments,so the standard ones lasted 14 years which seems pretty good.the motor will probably be in the scrappers buy the time i need new ones again unless they burst, thanks for the info ,learn something new everyday:)

If you can afford it, go for adjustable shocks from Bilstein or Koni:D

The spring rate is slightly different to standard which gives a better ride, they are not a lot more expensive:D
